Where does the goat milk come from?
The milk comes from our own goat herd. We have a mix of Nubians, Alpines and 1 Oberhasli.
How many goats do you have?
We have a total of 31, but it will change every Spring as the does kid. They range in age from a few months old all the way to 8 years old. We have 4 bucks, 3 wethers (neutered males) and 24 does. In one breeding season, our herd can TRIPLE!
Do you ever sell the babies?
We are in the process of expanding our herd, so the only goats we sell are the bucks. We will have does for sale in the near future.
Can I buy goat milk from you?
By law, I can't sell you goat milk for human consumption. We are not a dairy and do not hold the necessary licenses and permits. We do offer Goat Shares for those that are interested in milk and dairy products. For more information about our shares, please visit our Goat Share page. If you need milk for orphaned animals, please contact us because we might have a gallon or two to spare or can refer you to someone who does.
Why do you use goat milk?
Goat milk is great for people who have skin sensitivities and since it is similar in pH to the human skin, it is safe to use on your little ones. It has naturally occurring vitamins and minerals that help moisturize and nourish your skin. Lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxyl acid, naturally occurs in goat milk. Alpha hydroxyl acids are good for mature, aging skin and can help prevent and diminish wrinkles.
What does "paraben-free" mean?
Parabens can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, cleansing gels, personal lubricants, topical pharmaceuticals and toothpaste. Parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen, which is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers. Our preservative is free from any and all parabens.
Do you test your products on animals?
Our products and the ingredients we use are 100% free from animal testing.
How much preservative do you use?
Due to the oils and goat milk, we have to use a preservative. We use a very small amount. Our lotions and creams contain .5% of the preservative.
Do you make a shampoo or conditioner?
We have been asked this question a lot. We are in the process of creating a shampoo "bar" that would clean and condition at the same time. To keep the cost and packaging down, we decided on a bar instead of a liquid shampoo. It will be added to our store once we get the formula where we like it. We are always looking for new products to add. Your suggestions are always welcome.
Do you offer any facial products?
At this time, we do not offer any face specific products. Our soap is gentle enough for facial use, but we suggest using our Fragrance Free Cocoa or Shea Butter bars. Our Oatmeal Milk-n-Honey is great for exfoliating, but not for daily use. Our Hand & Body Lotion makes a great moisturizer for your face, but we are thinking of adding a facial moisturizer to our product line.
Do you use lye in your soap bars?
Yes. You cannot have soap without lye, however, the correct amount needs to be calculated and weighed out. Adding too much lye to the formulation will cause skin irritations and can even burn. The soap goes through a process called saponification. We cure our soap for a minimum of 4 weeks so that they are completely saponified and it makes for a harder bar. Our soap is not "Lye Soap" that some are familiar with.
What is saponification?
A base (sodium hydroxide a.k.a. lye) and an acid (oils and fats) react with one another and neutralize into salt and glycerin. We superfat with Castor Oil (3% of total oils) and also take a 5% lye discount (also called superfatting). This leaves unsaponifiable oils in the soap which have properties such as moisturizing, conditioning, etc.
